MDC releases youth hunting numbers

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Over the past youth weekend, young turkey hunters in Missouri had a successful outing, with preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation revealing a harvest of 3,721 birds on April 6 and 7.

This marks a significant increase from last year, as young hunters checked 2,550 birds during the 2023 spring youth weekend.

According to the MDC, favorable morning weather played a crucial role in boosting this year's harvest numbers, compensating for windy afternoons.

Officials also noted that successive better hatches in recent years have contributed to stabilizing the turkey population, leading to increased success for hunters. For more detailed hunting information, visit mdc.mo.gov.
