Enterovirus EV-D68 Cases Rising in Midwest

Health officials continue to monitor the high number of reports of a common virus in several Midwest states.

The Enterovirus EV-D68 is a respiratory virus that begins like a cold with symptoms such as coughing and wheezing.

Page County, Iowa Health Department Registered Nurse Wendy Moyer says infants, children and teenagers with history of asthma or other immune system conditions are more likely to get sick.

Moyer adds individuals should contact their physician’s office and follow their directions.

Infected people should drink plenty of fluids, rest, and stay home to prevent spreading the disease.
