Candidate filing period for state offices opens

The candidate filing period for state offices opened Tuesday. A total of 433 candidates filed for the primary elections to take place August 7. The first candidate to file was Noel Shull, a Republican from Kansas City running for the House of Representatives in District 16. Shull is the incumbent in that race, and currently faces no challengers in the primary.

In the KXCV listening area, for the Missouri House of Representatives:
- In District 1, Allen Andrews, the Republican incumbent from Grant City, is running unopposed in the primary. No Democrat has filed for the seat.
- In District 7, Republican incumbent Rusty Black from Chillicothe is currently unopposed in the primary. However, Dennis Van Dyke, a Democrat from Marceline, has also filed for the seat.

For the Missouri Senate:
- In District 12, incumbent Republican Dan Hegeman from Cosby is currently running unopposed in the primary. No Democrat has filed for the seat.

Additionally, there are currently three candidates for Sam Graves' seat in the US House of Representatives, including Graves. A total of 12 people from both major parties have filed for McCaskill's seat in the Senate, including Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley and former Fox News contributor Austin Petersen.
