Harsh winter causes difficult work for Maryville street crews

This winter has been marked by harsh temperatures in late December and early January, and an icy February, which can put a bit of a strain on the street departments in the area.

For the city of Maryville, the street maintenance crews have been out multiple times treating the streets in preparation for snow and ice events, and clearing the streets afterward. Maryville City Manager Greg McDanel says the last two weeks have been particularly difficult.

McDanel says the city is operating near the budgeted figures, but if the winter gets any longer, there might be some difficulty making sure the streets are treated in a timely fashion. McDanel also expressed gratitude toward the street maintenance crews for their hard work and efficient cleanup efforts.
