Missouri Department of Conservation hosts free "Deer Spectacular"

The Missouri Department of Conservation is hosting a free Deer Spectacular on Saturday, March 24 at the A.V. Spillman Event Center in Jamesport.

The event will begin with antler measuring from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Representatives from the Show-Me Big Bucks and the Boon & Crockett Club will score trophy antlers for honors by those organizations. Measuring will be followed by a white-tailed deer management workshop which begins at 1:30 p.m. Event organizer Nate Mechlin says there are four speakers lined up for the program.

The event isn't necessarily an annual event, but antler measurings do take place around the state at various points of the year. Missouri Department of Conservation Media Specialist Bill Graham says the event is more about serving a statewide interest in white-tailed deer.

The Deer Spectacular takes place at the A.V. Spillman Event Center, 308 Broadway in Jamesport, Mo. The event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required by calling Mechlin at 660-663-3703 or Scott Roy at 660-359-5685.
