Livingston County Safe Driving Contract

The Livingston County Sheriff's Office is offering a safe driver contract for parents and children in hopes of increasing driving skills and safety. Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox says the contract can make it easier for parents and children to talk about safe driving.

"They have an agreement. If there's a violation of that agreement, you can set out what the penalties can be at home, not to mention in court.  But just get written expectations from those kids.  They can read them however many times as they want and re-read it.  Maybe it'll sink into their brain to drive safe and pay attention."

Cox adds the contract discusses the importance of safe driving for everyone.

"Everybody wants to see their kid or family member get home safe every day. Unfortunately, things can happen in just a 10th of a second that can change everybody's life forever.  It's a way to communitcate and talk with everybody about what's going on, to be safe, and their responsibilities as a driver."

The contract is available online at www.driving-tests.org .
