MO Senate agrees to establish treatment courts

The Missouri General Assembly recently concluded its annual veto session as well as an additional special session called by Governor Parson.  Lawmakers chose not to override any of the governor's vetoes. The Senate confirmed several gubernatorial appointments, and the legislature as a whole approved bills dealing with STEM education and drug treatment courts. State Senator Dan Hegeman, a Republican from Cosby, says House Bill 2 will establish treatment courts in Missouri. He says this is a proven alternative to prison.

"Not only helps the state in keeping  those families together and keeping families maybe off welfare and offenders out of prisons.  It gives the offender the help and assistance they need so they can become a productive member of society and really kind of a win-win all around.  Yet in doing that there'll be times people won't make the changes and they will still have to go the correction system.  At least it's an effort to try to reduce that number and to try to give them a chance to change things.  And again keep them working and taking care of the family."
