Share the Harvest feeds hungry Missourians

The Missouri Department of Conservation and the Conservation Federation of Missouri are encourageing deer hunters around the state to share their harvests through the states Share the Harvest program. Spokesperson for the Missouri Department of Conservation Joe Jerek says this program helps hungry Missourians.

" Share the Harvest is a pretty incredible program where deer hunters throughout Missouri can literally share their harvest to help feed hungry Missourians."

Jerek adds this program is very easy to get involved in.

"Deer hunters who have extra venison - be it pounds of it or even whole deer- simply need to take it to participating meat processors throughout the state and say that they are donating it for Share the Harvest."

Jerek also adds this program has helped thousands of people since the program started.

"Last year thousands of Missouri deer hunters donated nearly 300,000 pounds of venison to the program.  And that was just last season.  That included 5600 whole whitetailed deer.  Since the program was started back in 1992, Share the Harvest has really provided more than 4 million pounds of lean, healthy venison and it all goes to help hungry Missourians."

To find participating processors go online to huntfish.mdc.mo.gov or call the Missouri Department of Conservation.
