Albany school district adds baseball

After five months of study, the Albany Board of Education voted Monday night to add baseball to the school district's sports offerings. Albany Superintendent Dr. Brian Pekarek says the board voted 5-1 and 1 abstaining in favor of adding baseball.

Pekarek says the issue has been discussed several times in the past but with 11 other schools in the Grand River Conference offering baseball, adding the sport became more feasible for the school district.
Pekarek also says to be Title 9 compliant, the district will now review offering an additional girls extra curricular activity in the near future.

The 2020 season will be the first year Albany will begin baseball competition at the high school level.
