St. Joseph skater statue stolen

One of three skater statues in St. Joseph located on the Parkway just north of Corby Pond was stolen last week.  Public Information Officer with the City of St. Joseph, Mary Robertson says the earlier the statue can be returned the better.

"It is a set of three.  The way the statues are placed, it's quite evident that one will be missing.  And it's just that all our public art is important to the community.  It belongs to the community.  This particular statue was donated by a local family years ago.  It just plays an important role in the vitality of our parkway system and our public art and our public places for the entire community to enjoy.  It's very unfortunate that someone felt the need to steal one of the three."

Robertson also says there are many ways to contact the city about information regarding the missing statue.

"They can always contact the St. Joseph Police Department at 271-4777.  They can call in an anonymous tip at the tips hotline which is 238-TIPS.  Additionally, we've also offered up that if whomever took the statues, they can return it, no questions asked.  We will accept that.  Certainly we would like to be able to pursue options with the theft of that.  But most importantly right now is to get the return of the statue."

The statue can be returned anonymously to the parks administration building at 1920 Grand Avenue or at any visible public place.
