Tech grant awarded to Rolling Hills Library

Rolling Hills Library has received a grant to help fund a technology expansion at both branches beginning this week.
A grant of $12,786 through the Missouri State Library has allowed Rolling Hills to replace two aging children's computers and purchase eight educational computer tablets for children to check out. Public Relations Specialist with Rolling Hills Library Alan Stolfus says the tablets will facilitate learning in children.

"Tablets that are loaded with age-appropriate educational games, puzzles, and activities for pre-school-aged children and younger children so they can learn their alphabet, learn numbers, and learn colors."

Stolfus adds that for parents who are concerned about their child's screen time, these tablets provide an educational alternative.

"Parents are worried about the amount of time that children spend staring at screens now and all the devices that are available to them.  And children like to interact with those devices.  So these are devices that have something good with them, something educational, that kids can use because they want to use them but learn at the same time."

Five of the tablets will be available at the Belt Branch in St. Joseph and three will be available at the Savannah Branch starting today.  Children can check them out for up to three weeks.
