Tourism grant funds available for events

The Maryville City Council has approved guidelines for any business or organization to apply for tourism grant funds.  Assistant City Manager Ryan Heiland says the grants will be administered by the city's tourism committee that was formed following the 2016 vote establishing a transient guest tax.  Money raised from the tax goes to help fund the Hughes Fieldhouse on the Northwest campus and the formation of a tourism committee.

"The tourism committee will be going to start considering proposals for tourism promotion and marketing only for projects and events located within Maryville, within Nodaway county as a whole.  Grant awards will not exceed $1000 per applicant.  Certainly that's a way for some events within Nodaway county and Maryville if they are looking for extra funds for their tourism-type event, they can certainly seek out the tourism board on that."

Heiland adds anyone interested in applying for tourism grant funds can get more information at the Maryville City Hall.
