Peterson named Northwest Director of Athletics

Andy Peterson has accepted the role of director of athletics at Northwest Missouri State University.

University President Dr. John Jasinski made the announcement Tuesday morning.

“I am beyond humbled and honored by the opportunity to be the director of athletics at Northwest Missouri State,” Peterson said in a statement. “I am excited to work with our student-athletes, coaches, staff, fans, alumni and donors everywhere to build a framework that provides the best possible experiences for all our student-athletes. It’s an exciting time in Bearcat athletics, and I can’t wait to get going to build and uplift our student-athletes, their families, our coaches and support base.”

Peterson had served as assistant AD for facilities for five years and head golf coach for four years.

The Trenton, Missouri native also worked under Ben McCollum as assistant men's basketball coach for seven years, including the national championship squad in 2017.

He was named interim director of athletics on April 4 as Mel Tjeerdsma retired from the University at the end of the month.

Peterson was also a member of the Bearcat men's basketball team from 2003-2008 helping Northwest win the 2008 MIAA Tournament Title. He finished his playing career with the third highest three-point percentage and is sixth all-time in steals.
