Burlington Junction man charged with murder in the 2nd degree

A 64-year-old Burlington Junction man has been charged with murder in the second degree following the Wednesday afternoon death of an 88-year-old man. Nodaway County Sheriff Randy Strong says the incident that resulted in the victim's death took place last Friday evening in Burlington Junction.

"Our 9-1-1 Center responded by sending an ambulance and deputies to that address.  During the call, the caller pretty much claimed that he was responsible for what had happened.  When our deputies arrived at the scene, they looked at the injuries and determined it was assault."

The victim's name has not been released at this time.  He was transferred from SSM-St. Francis Hospital to Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City following the assault and passed away Wednesday afternoon. An autopsy determined he died as a result of trauma to the head.

Nodaway County Prosecuting Attorney Robert Rice originally charged Wayne Davison with 1st Degree Assault and Elder Abuse and has since amended those charges to Murder in the 2nd Degree. According to Strong, Davison and the victim lived in the same residence in Burlington Junction.  The probable cause statement lists the victim as Davison's father.

According to Nodaway County Prosecuting Attorney Robert Rice, Davison is to be arraigned in Nodaway County Circuit Court Division Two, February 5th at 8:30 in front of Judge Doug Thomson.
