Carreer Pathing program offers great opportunities for all

Northwest Missouri State University, in partnership with the Maryville Chamber of Commerce, is offering eight presentations featuring professional development topics for students, University employees, and area residents during its Career Pathing program. Senior Human Resources Generalist and Coordinator of the Student Employment Program at Northwest Missouri State, Paula McLain, says the Career Pathing program is an opportunity for student employees to attend professional development sessions. If students attend 3 sessions in the fall and spring, they can qualify for a 25 cent per hour increase of pay in their positions. McLain says these sessions are beneficial because they enhance development.

"We also open the sessions to our faculty/staff and to the community.  It's really to help our student employees to focus on learning about and developing transitional skills and profession-based knowledge through interactive training sessions.  We also invite the faculty/staff and the community to participate to enhance their development and to learn along with the students that they'll be working with in the future."

McLain says that they will have several topics being presented.

"So the first one is this Thursday, January 24th and it will be on communication.  We have some that are inspirational/motivational sessions.  We have crisis management. Topics like diversity, bystander training, how to have a positive attitude in the workplace, team-building and professionalism."
