Maryville City Council hears report on housing issues

The Maryville City Council heard a report on the city's housing issues last night presented by a representative from R-D-G Planning and Design. Maryville City Manager Greg McDanel says the study identified housing needs in the community over the next twenty years.

"It looks like there's a demand of about 650 new structures over the next 20 years.  And so there are multiple gaps in the market and any investment in the market creates an upward mobility for residents to own new homes at different price ranges and create additional homes for workforce housing."

McDanel says the next step with the report is to get it in front of the general public.

"We're going to post the full study online.  We're also going to get that into some developers' hands and some home builders' and some realtors' hands, into the bankers'.  And just get this study out and hopefully generate some investments in some of those gaps."

The housing study was funded through a partnership between the city, local industry, Maryville Industrial Development Corporation and Nodaway County Economic Development.
