A Maryville resident is in serious condition after an accident on US 71, about 10 miles south of Maryville this morning around 5:40. According to a report from the Missouri Highway Patrol, 35-year-old Colt Gardiner was southbound on US 71 when he fell asleep and traveled off the east side of the roadway. He then overcorrected, travelled off the west side of the roadway, became airborne, and struck an embankment. Gardiner was transported by Nodaway County Ambulance to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. He was not wearing a safety device. The crash was asssisted by Maryville Public Safety
