News Year's Holiday Traffic Report

Eight people died in Missouri traffic crashes during the 2019 New Year's Holiday weekend. According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, that's up one from last year's counting period. One of the eight fatalities was recorded in northwest Missouri. There were a total of 352 accidents with 112 injuries and 127 driving while intoxicated arrests. This year's New Year's counting period ran from six p.m. Friday through 11:59 p.m. Tuesday.
In addition, the Missouri Highway Patrol conducted a DWI Enforcement Saturation in Andrew and Buchanan Counties from seven p.m. Monday to three a.m. Tuesday. During that time, five officers patrolled Andrew and Buchanan counties with a goal of detecting impaired drivers and other traffic violations that contribute to traffic crashes. There were two arrests for driving while intoxicated, two drug arrests, two arrant arrests, fourteen traffic citations issued and 42 warnings given.
