Northwest Missouri Weather Update

Bitter cold temperatures, freezing rain, and significant snowfall have made travel difficult in northwest Missouri over the last two weeks. Freezing rain and snowfall Tuesday caused several area schools to close and has made the roads dangerous. National Weather Service Forecaster Jared Leighton says most of northwest Missouri saw 4 to 5 inches of snow and that could stick around for a while.

"Well, I don't expect it to go very far very quickly.  We are expecting temperatures to stay below freezing at least for the next several days probably though Sunday. We hava at least 4-5 more days where we won't even see temperatures above freezing up above far northern MO."

Leighton adds with a lack of melting, roads could remain dangerous for the next few days.

"Roads are still going to be pretty tough to negotiate. They shouldn't be covered with snow as I mentioned earlier, but maybe your tertiary roads are and some secondary roads, but most of your primary roads should be uncovered at some point in the next 24 hours.  So they still will be a little slick so people need to remain cautious.  We are not going to see any melting at least for the next 4-5 days."
