Power outages due to damaging high winds

The high winds in the region have knocked out power for nearly 4,000 Kansas City Power and Light customers in the St. Joseph area. According to an outage map on KCP& L's website, affected customers are in St. Joseph and near Country Club Village. Spokesman for KCP&L Jeremy McNeive says up to 60 miles per hour wind is causing the power outage.

"The issues that we're dealing with are what we call trees into lines -  trees hitting power lines. That is without a doubt the majority of the power outages that we are dealing with right now.  We do not have estimated restoration times yet, but I can tell you that the majority of the tickets that we've received have been assigned, meaning that they have been assigned to crews.  We're not looking at multi-day restoration or anything like that."
