Stanberry Board of Ed hears good news about budget

Schools were dismissing early and dealing with weather issues but the Stanberry Board of Education was able to meet this week. Superintendent Bob Heddinger says the board met for their regular session Tuesday evening. During the meeting, Heddinger says the board considered bids for mowing, audit and gym floor refurbishing. He adds the board also heard encouraging news about the school district's budget.

"I was able to compare the original budget that we approved in August.  And with amendments, we were able to move from a roughly $56,000 deficit to about $8000 surplus at the mid-year point.  So that was very encouraging and good news to be able to report to the board.  Beyond that, we looked at some preliminary MAP and EOC data.  Most of what we could talk about is still secured and so it's not available for public viewing at this time.  There'll be more to report on that in the February meeting."

Heddinger adds the board also evaluated the Early Childhood and Parents as Teachers programs.  He says the Stanberry school district is fortunate to have these programs.
