Super Science Saturday set for Jan 26th

The St. Joseph Museum has announced plans for the 19th Annual Super Science Saturday, January 26th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Remington/Agenstein Hall on the Missouri Western campus. Public Relations Officer with the St. Joseph Museum, Kathy Reno, says the event will be fun for the whole family.

"Super Science Saturday is annual and of course it's a big celebration of science and math.  We do experiments and they are ongoing and we gear it primarily for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.  But we noticed years ago that adults love it, older brothers and sisters come, so it's great for everybody."

The event will feature brief planetarium shows, live chemistry demonstrations, cockroach racing, a presentation about reptiles, including an appearance by Rocky, the Sulcatta Tortoise, and many more activites designed to excite kids about math and science. Reno says the event was inspired by the museum's origins in education.

"The St. Joseph Museum began as a children's museum 92 years ago so this pays homage to our beginnings.  And then Missouri Western State Univeristy, their faculty, began to talk to us about the fact that one area we tend to lag in is math and science in the United States.  So we thought the younger we can get children excited about those topics and we can make it very hands on, and we grew from there."
