Weather update indicates extreme cold is coming

This past weekend saw snowy weather across northwest Missouri. Meteorologist with the National Weather Service Walter Otto says most of the snow was in northwest and central Missouri.

"When the snow event came through and dumped the snow for northwestern Missouri the higher totals, we had 7 in Maryville, 8 in Trenton. St Joseph only had 5, and then you get further extreme northwestern Missouri and in Nebraska City reported 11 inches.  Some of the lighter totals were down in northern Kansas City and some of the higher totals were in north-central and extreme northwestern Missouri.

There is another chance of snow for this upcoming weekend. Otto adds they are keeping a close eye on the possible snow.

"A lot of the long range models are indicating there is a potential for some more snow for this weekend.  They are still coming into resolution on the actual amounts of snow. So we are kind of keeping a close eye on that. But definitely looking that temperatures are going to be cold. Especially for the weekend, it looks like we could see some pretty cold temperatures come through."
