WIC services continue through Government Shutdown

Amid the partial federal government shutdown, the City of St. Joseph Health Department reminds area residents the WIC program, which provides assistance to low income women, infants and children, is still providing services for participants. WIC coordinator, Lisa Horn, says participants can continue to receive their regular benefits.

"Missouri WIC is open for business as usual. So with our WIC clinic, we are continuing to provide services to participants.  They are continuing to go to stores to use their benefits. It's business as usual."

Horn adds as of now there are no other changes in effect to the WIC program.

"We are maintaining the 'business as usual' level of services at this point. If the shutdown is still in affect January 31st, the state will send us some additional updated information."

Horn urges anyone with questions regarding their WIC services to contact the St. Joseph Health Department.

"They can definitely call our office, in fact we encourage that," Horn said. "We encourage participants, people in the community to call us with questions they have. Our office is open and we answer the phone from eight o'clock to noon and one to five Monday through Friday."

The WIC office can be reached at (816) 271-4723. It's located at 904 S. 10th Street in St. Joseph.
