Working for Blue program supplies the Northwest UPD with new equipment

The Northwest Missouri State University Police Department recently received an estimated $10,000 worth of new equipment through a Kansas City, Missouri, television station's effort to raise money to provide free ballistic vests to Kansas City area law enforcement agencies with a need. The program is called Working for Blue and is a partnership between WDAF television and SHIELD616, a non-profit organization which has provided top-rated vests and ballistic helmet kits to 32 different agencies in Kansas and Missouri. University Police Chief Clarence Green says a lieutenant in his department was the driving force behind the application.

"Lt. Amanda Cullin has really taken on as a program for us to be involved with this group out of Kansas City to really assist us with getting equipment that otherwise is difficult for us to fund for all our officers."

Green says the grant helped supply eight vests, eight trauma kits and eight magazine holders to his department.

"To receive the equipment that we have will aid us and help us complete our duties in a more efficient manner. It's also a relief for the institution. It saves us funding that otherwise we would have to request from the institution that's sometimes difficult for us to secure."
