Clarinda City Council met last night

The Clarinda City Council met on Wednesday. Items on the agenda included permission to hold a family fun night at the Clarinda City Park, and a resolution to declare and establish an Urban Renewal Area. Clarinda City Manager, Gary McClarnon, says there was an ordinance to tax property in the Walnut Hills Housing Urban Renewal Area.

"Providing for the division of taxes levied on the taxable property in order for us to collect all of the tax financing money.  As a city to turn it into the developer, we have to pass an ordinance to do that.  So the Council did go ahead.  They approved the first reading and then they waved the second and third readings.  And they went ahead and adopted that ordinance."

McClarnon adds they approved a pay request for the Clarinda Facade Rehabilitation Project, which is near completion.

"That project is actually starting to wind down.  They've got till April 30th to complete the project and with this pay request, they are just right at 91% complete with the project.  It's been a great project for us.  We'll be very anxious to go ahead and get it completed so that we can move on to the next project."

The next Clarinda City Council meeting will be held on March 13th.
