Conception Abbey and Seminary College has announced the launch of a major capital campaign with a goal of raising nearly 15 million dollars.

The campaign has a goal of 10 million dollars to be put toward a new residence hall and 4.5 million to go toward growing the Monastic Retirement Endowment. Father Brendan Moss with Conception Abbey says the new residence hall will allow the seminarians to have a single living space.

" Our new dorm will house 68 double rooms so we can be a seminary community.  What we are typically is 70 on our low end and 100 to 115 on our high end.  And so this will bring all of us together under one roof.  So this will not only update our facilities, but it will also set us up well for another 150 years of service to the church."

Father Moss adds the Retirement Endowment will assist the older community at the Abbey.

"As monks, we dedicate our whole lives to this work.  So we really need to address the needs of those who really served us well and gotten into their senior years and are in need of typical help that one has when they're elderly.  So a kind of nursing environment.  Our St. Steven Infirmary and the budget of our health care for our monks will be the great work of this endowment."

The campaign kicked off Wednesday and Moss adds they hope to have the funds raised within 3 to 5 months.  For more information visit conceptionabbey.org .
