Jazz Speakeasy will be this Saturday, March 9th

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Community Connections group at Northwest Missouri State University will host its second Jazz Speakeasy. The event is 7 to 10 pm Saturday, March 9th in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom. Research librarian and outreach at B.D. Owens Library, Carolyn Johnson, says the group wants to provide connections for community members and university employees to meet together. Johnson also adds the Speakeasy is a come and go fundraiser.

"We thought that this would be a great opportunity to reach out and make some of that happen.  It's also a fundraiser this year for Student Emergency Funds with the Pay It Forward Fund.  So the proceeds go to students who either need - like they can't afford their prescription drugs for the month for some reason.  Or they have some family emergency.  Anything like that that helps them stay in school and graduate."

Johnson adds that this is also a great opportunity for the community to hear the Northwest Jazz ensemble and Jazz combo, under the direction of Professor of Music Dr. William Richardson, perform jazz and blues standards. Again the Speakeasy will be held Saturday, March 9th from 7-10 pm in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom.
