LED bulbs distributed from KCP&L & Second Harvest

Kansas City Power & Light is partnering with Second Harvest Community Food Bank to distribute over 23 thousand LED light bulbs to food insecure individuals and families. Communications Coordinator for Second Harvest, Blake Haynes, says the give-away eases the struggles of the pantry's clientele.

"This has been a yearly event.  KCP&L comes down and distributes some of their LED bulbs to members of the community that utilize Fresh Start and some of our other pantries and things like that.  It's an amazing occurence for them to give items like this out.  It's something that individuals now will not have to purchase themselves, so it frees up money for them to utilize in other places to help them out."

Haynes says the distribution is a joint effort.

"So basically what happens is KCP&L has the bulbs delivered directly straight to Second Harvest.  We then set light bulbs up out at Fresh Start.  And then representatives from both Second Harvest & KCP&L distribute them for this event."
