Nebraska is $39 million short to balance budget

Nebraska lawmakers will have to come up with an additional
$39 million this year to balance the state budget.

The board that estimates tax revenue has predicted the state will
collect $110 million less than previously expected between now and June 2021.

That projected shortfall will get reduced to $39 million because some of that
money will automatically come out of the state's cash reserve.

Members of the Nebraska Economic Forecasting Advisory Board say Nebraska's
larger cities are faring well despite a skilled worker shortage and low
unemployment that could lead to higher wages. But they say rural Nebraska and
the agriculture industry are struggling.
