Senator Hegaman discusses budget progress

As the Missouri Legislature is halfway through Session for the year, there have been many issues on budget reform for this year. Senator Dan Hegaman, a Republican from Cosby, says the budget is nearly complete for this year.

"....talk about the budget process.  We continue to work on the budget.  The House is wrapping up their portion of putting together their priorities for the budget.  Soon the Senate will take the House bill and add in Senate priorities as to what we see as the needs and the necessity of using your tax dollars to fund the state government services, where we can do that.  And we need to properly appropriate or distribute those resources."

Hegeman says he believes the budget is proceeding as it should.

"I think we're moving along just fine.  We have to do a supplemental budget here and hopefully get that completed soon after spring break.  And that's additional dollars that we've need to adjust the estimates that we had for this present fiscal year that we're in right now.  And I think that's gone through fine.  I think we've made good progress on the procession of looking at various departmental requests.  And now we're just waiting on the House bills to come over so that the Senate again put their mark on it and see where we would like to go."

The Legislature is back in session after a week off from Spring Break.
