A record-setting performance from junior Marcus Klein at the Southwest Baptist Bearcat Invite on Saturday garnered attention from the MIAA.

Klein set a new Northwest Missouri State mark in the long jump to earn conference field athlete of the week honors.

The Harlan, Iowa native recorded a jump of 25 feet, 5.25 inches to break a Bearcat record previously held by Matt Abele for 18 years. It also ranks as the second longest jump in NCAA Division II this year.

A transfer from Iowa Western Community College, it wasn't the first time this year that Klein turned heads in the long jump. He won the MIAA indoor long jump title in February.

Northwest returns to action this weekend in the David Suenram Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas.
