POLO, Mo. - The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle accident that killed two teenagers and injured three others in Caldwell County.
According to a Patrol crash report, the wreck happened on eastbound Price Drive, less than a mile west of MO Highway 13, at 7:18 p.m. Jan. 5.
The Patrol says 18-year-old Harley Sammons was driving the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze that skidded on the gravel road and left the roadway, before striking a ditch and going airborne.
The Chevrolet would overturn twice before coming to a rest. Two boys, 14, who were passengers in the car, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Caldwell County Coroner.
Another 14-year old passenger, who’s listed in serious condition, was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City by Life Flight Eagle. Sammons and 20-year old passenger, Seth Pate, are in moderate condition at the hospital. None of the passengers were wearing a seatbelt.
