SHENANDOAH, Iowa - With precautions in place and the approval of southwest Iowa health officials, the Wabash Trace Nature Trail Marathon will go on as scheduled September 12 after much deliberation.
Shenandoah Commerce Marketing Director Shelly Warner told KXCV/KRNW that the race will featured staggered starts for runners and a socially-distanced crowd to help mitigate the potential spread of COVID-19.
"We've decided that running a marathon or half-marathon is a pretty taxing event to anybody, even if they're in great shape. So we decided if they were sick, they would not come," said Warner.
Warner adds that organizers decided to cancel the race's traditional after party and that the race could still be canceled if southwest Iowa sees an increase in cases.
