ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The University of Missouri Extension Office is reminding growers not to harvest their alfalfas.
Agronomy Field Specialist Wayne Flanary told KXCV/KRNW that growers should avoid harvesting until about October 20, to allow for plants to store enough carbohydrate to survive the winter.
Plants harvested before that will thin and stands will decline. Flanary adds stand decline is often hard to see in a field situation.
