JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - People are still out hunting during this pandemic, but apparently not as much, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation.
During opening weekend for fall firearms deer season this month, hunters harvested 80,525 deer. That's just over 8,000 less than 2019's opening season.
Spokesperson for the MDC Joe Jerek told KXCV/KRNW that Mother Nature played a part in the lower number.
Despite that, Jerek expects to see more hunters active overall, as the MDC did with turkey season. The MDC also reminds hunters to stay safe during hunting season and to continue social distancing.
