With the first round of NCAA Division 2 Men's Basketball Regional Rankings released on Wednesday, the road to the Elite Eight appears that it will head through Maryville in the central region once again.
Northwest Missouri State (24-1, 14-1 MIAA) leads the pack, followed by Southeastern Oklahoma State and Missouri Southern.
The Bearcats dispatched the Lions 96-75 February 13 en route to their current 20-1 in-region record, with a second meeting with MSSU coming up February 20.
"There's no doubt that we're looking at a team very capable of a repeat run, they check all the boxes," Wayne Cavadi of NCAA.com said.
Northwest won its second national championship in 2019 posting a perfect 38-0 record.
The MIAA Tournament is on the horizon in Kansas City March 4-8. The NCAA Tournament begins March 14.
