PATTONSBURG, Mo. - The Missouri State Highway Patrol says seven people, including children, were injured in a two-vehicle wreck.
The Patrol says 51-year-old Haysam Elkott of Temple Terrance, Florida, was driving a 2016 Volvo on I-35, seven miles north of Pattonsburg, at 8:25 a.m. Sunday.
Authorities say the Volvo traveled off the side of the road and struck the rear driver's side of a 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan. The Dodge then slide off the side of the road and overturned onto its roof.
In the Dodge were 31-year-old Justin Phelps, 27-year-old Dakota Torres and five children, all of Azle, Texas. Elkott experienced no injury, but Phelps and a nine-year-old suffered serious injuries.
All the other victims suffered mild to moderate injuries. Phelps was transported to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. The nine-year-old was taken to Children's Mercy in Kansas City.
