WEST DES MOINES, Iowa- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources wants boaters to keep their boats and equipment clean to protect lakes and rivers from aquatic invasive species.
Aquatic Invasive Species Program Coordinator Kim Bogenschutz told KXCV/KRNW that these aquatic hitchhikers are non-native plants and animals that can cause problems to native species habitats.
Bogenschutz adds it is illegal to possess or transport aquatic invasive species. To protect Iowa waters, boaters should "Clean, Drain, and Dry" their boats and equipment.
