DES MOINES, Iowa - Spring has sprung and birds are flying back from winter. However, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources urges those with bird feeders to keep their feeders clean.
Avian Ecologist with the Iowa DNR Anna Buckardt Thomas told KXCV/KRNW that unsanitary conditions can lead to the spread of at least three bird diseases, but they can be prevented.
Thomas adds that if people find sick birds at their feeders, they should take down the feeder for at least two weeks.
