JOHNSTON, Iowa - As more people head for the lakes, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources wants to remind paddlers about the importance of safety.
Boating Law Administrator and Education Coordinator for the Iowa DNR Susan Stocker told KXCV/KRNW that before heading out, paddlers should know which body of water, river, or stream you are going out to.
Strainers push the debris to one side of the river and acts as the natural direction where the water takes everything. Stocker adds to always wear life jackets, life vests, and personal floatation devices.
