ATLANTIC, Iowa - While a healthy pond needs aquatic plants, too few or too many can throw off the the body of water's balance.
Fisheries Technician at Rathbun Fish Hatchery Darcy Cashatt told KXCV/KRNW that aquatic plants can create clear water within the pond, but they can also disrupt the ecosystem.
While growing season for these plants ends at the end of this month, pond owners could still use herbicides to combat the growth.
