JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - With archery season open and firearms season opening soon for deer hunting in Missouri, the state Department of Conservation wants to give hunters information on chronic wasting disease (CWD) and to remind hunters about requirements for CWD sampling.

The disease is deadly for deer, with 206 cases detected in Missouri since 2012. Though the disease remains rare in Missouri now, the MDC is looking for some help from hunters to keep it that way

This includes hunters who harvest deer in any county in the CWD Management Zone during opening weekend of firearms season, November 13 and 14.

The CWD Management Zone includes 18 counties in Missouri, including, Linn, Mercer, Putnam, and Sullivan in the KXCV/KRNW listening area. For more information or to find a CWD sampling station, you can visit mdc.mo.gov/cwd.
