CHARITON, Iowa - At Northwest Missouri State University, it's cute to see them on campus, but in Iowa it's hunting season for them.
Forest Wildlife Research Biologist for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Jim Coffey told KXCV/KRNW that squirrel hunting is an inexpensive way to get introduced to hunting and hunters can gain valuable skills.
Hunters will find plenty of squirrels with little competition because last year, nearly 13,000 hunters hunted 76,000 squirrels.
Squirrel hunting season lasts through January 31 with no restriction on shooting hours. For more information, visit iowadnr.gov.
