MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation is recommending a creel limit change at Mozingo Lake for crappie, but is seeking input from anglers before putting it into place.
The change would allow anglers to keep 30 crappie a day, but with a limit of 15 for fish over 9 inches. The limit was dropped from 30 to its current 15-a-day in 2017, after high fishing pressure resulted in a very low crappie population.
The MDC hopes the increased limit will help thin out smaller size fish and reduce competition for food, allowing the remaining fish to grow larger.
The M-D-C says that a similar change went into effect at Smithville Lake in 2019 with favorable results. To provide a comment on the change, you can visit mdc.mo.gov/mozingo-crappie.
