Two charged in connection with teen's deadly overdose

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. - A 32-year-old man and 23-year-old woman have been arrested and charged after the death of a teenager over the weekend in Chillicothe.

According to a press release, a 17-year-old girl was found dead inside of a home near Cherry and Ann Streets at 11:30 a.m. October 17. Officers learned at the scene that the dead teen had ingested counterfeit prescription pills.

The press release adds that officers have recently responded to several overdose incidents involving counterfeit pills, however those people did not die.

Tehya Kelley, 23, and Jeremiah Horton, 32, were arrested in connection with the overdose death investigation on Sunday. Both were transported to the Daviess-DeKalb County Regional Jail.

According to records, Kelley is charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter and delivery of a controlled substance, while Horton is charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Police haven’t identified the victim and say the investigation continues.
