JOHNSTON, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is hoping hunters take extra precautions this year while duck hunting.

Boating law administrator and education coordinator for the Iowa DNR Susan Stocker adds that by law, every person on the boat must have a easily-accessible life jacket that fits them in good condition.

Stocker adds the most common issue with duck hunting accidents is that with all the added weight on the boat, it is easy to tip and capsize. Iowa traditionally has two or three duck hunting related accidents every year.
