Suspect and victim identified in Union Star homicide

UNION STAR, Mo. - Charges have been filed in connection with a Union Star homicide investigation, right after the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office identified the victim.

Jodi Jacob Downs of Savannah has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of 44-year-old Dennis Patterson Jr. of St. Joseph.

According to documents, Patterson went to the Union Star home of his girlfriend, Kori McGinnis, to retrieve his car on July 16.

Instead, Downs was at the house, where he and Patterson gotten into a fight that ended with the shooting death of Patterson.

Tips lead the Sheriff's Office to home on November 8 where Patterson's remains were found two days later in the backyard.
