Sept. 24, 2021MARYVILLE, Mo.
A busy Saturday on the Northwest Missouri State campus gets rolling a little earlier than normal with the Bearcat Athletic Training 5K Run/Walk.
The annual Family Weekend event raises money for the Athletic Training Department at Northwest for graduate assistants and professional development, but it's also a chance to connect with alumni returning to campus.
It's an event Northwest head athletic trainer Matt Cannella and his staff look forward to every year.
"You love to see that the alumni network here is so strong," Cannella said. "Seeing people coming back, student-athletes, old faculty, being able to see those people and interact with them again just brings back old memories, past connections, past stories that you've had with everybody."
Walk-up registration and check-in Saturday begins at 6:15am with the 5K beginning at 7am from the circle drive in front of Lamkin Activity Center on Fourth Street.
"It's something to do at 7 o'clock on a Saturday morning before the game," Cannella said. "Even if you don't want to run, you're certainly more than welcome to walk it. It's just an excuse to walk and talk with your friends or your family."
