JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation is taking another step towards changing fishing limits for crappie at Mozingo Lake.
The MDC proposed increasing the limit from 15 to 30 a day, reversing a change made in 2017 to increase population. The proposal would also restrict harvest of crappie over nine inches to 15 per person, per day.
The MDC hopes the new change will lower competition for food and improve crappie size structure, and the Missouri Conservation Commission has given initial approval to the change.
The next step in the process is a 30-day public comment period which will run from April 2 to May 1 at mdc.mo.gov. If approved, the changes will go into effect on August 30.
